Self Defence
Jeet Kune Do is an art form, but can be used as a self defence tool as well.
|
Most of us have active, busy lifestyles. Many are pressed for time and find it difficult to attend an actual training course.
For those of us who can not devote our entire lifestyle to the complete art form of Jeet Kune Do, it is beneficial
for us to learn what we can with whatever means we have.
Bruce Lee, as a child, was beaten up by street thugs (one time). This gave him initiative to learn to fight. I believe,
had this fight not have occurred, there would never have been a Bruce Lee as we know him today. Circumstances in his life
gave Lee the zeal not only to excel, but to be the best fighter alive (which of course, he achieved) -- which in
turn fueled his ambition, empowering his rise to stardom.
Granted, most of us are not Bruce Lee.
Although many would argue that "You can´t learn Jeet Kune Do from a website (or book)," that doesn´t mean you
can´t gain some practical insight.
I once heard, that if you learn just two moves, and
|
practice them every day without fail -- you will have a a better
than average ability to defend yourself on the street.
Mind you, having a knowledgeable instructor in martial arts is essential to learning proper form and application.
A web site or book cannot substitute for an instructor or friend to show you the correct way, but is rather a supplement.
It is strongly recommended (remember, this is not a life-long commitment) that you find a knowlegdeable instructor (preferrably,
of course, in JKD) to learn the basics -- then take it from there.
What Is Jeet Kune Do?
Bruce Lee was a very smart man. When he learned to fight using various martial arts, he began to see limitations in
their form. He found that strict form, rules and patterns had inherent weaknesses.
Improvising, he used parts from differnt martial arts techniques that worked best for him -- combining them, thus freeing himself of
strict form (a limitation).
Use what works best for you -- this is the basis of JKD.
